Google Wallet adds receipt scanning and a message center with the Play Services update.
Google has added four new features to Google Wallet with the Google Play Services version 26.40 update; the most notable is the ability to scan receipts and add them directly to the wallet, according to "Android Authority", citing the version's changelog.
The new features include an in-app message center and clearer merchant names in transaction notifications. Additionally, users paying via Google Pay on Chrome for Android can now skip the payment request interface when providing merchants with their name, email, and phone number.
However, Google did not specify how the receipt feature works, which types of receipts are supported, or in which countries it will initially be available; nor did it specify the types of messages the message center would display, according to "Android Police".
The update is rolling out automatically; users can check their Google Play Services version number by navigating to Settings > Apps > Google Play Services. "Droid Life" added that the Play Store version 53.6 update includes changes to "Ask Play" and AI-generated summaries for community posts.
These updates follow Google's enhancements to Android connectivity features and the arrival of the September Google Play System update on Samsung phones—and come the same week Google announced the Fitbit Edge watch featuring an AMOLED display.
